About Samvaad Institute of Speech and Hearing

The Samvaad Institute of Speech and Hearing was established by Radhika Poovayya, Speech Language Pathologist with vast professional, clinical and teaching experience. The Institute is affiliated to the Bangalore Central University and is recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India. GSM Education Trust manages the activities of the Institute.

Established in 2005, the objectives of the institute are

  • Train professionals in the specialized field of Speech Language Pathology and Audiology.
  • Provide services to people with speech and language disabilities.
  • Increase public awareness and dispel myths about speech, hearing and behaviour problems.
  • To undertake clinical based research in the field of speech and hearing.

THE BACKBONE OF SAMVAAD

Meet Radhika Poovayya

Radhika is the Founder and Director of Samvaad Therapy Centres and the Samvaad Institute of Speech & Hearing. A Speech Language Pathologist and US Board-Certified Behavior Analyst, she has over 30 years of experience working with individuals with speech, language, and behavioural challenges.

Her expertise includes stammering, aphasia, speech clarity issues, and ABA therapy for children with autism and behavioural concerns. In 2003, recognising the limitations of traditional approaches for autism, she pioneered the integration of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) into speech therapy, becoming India’s first Speech Language Pathologist with a dual degree in Speech Pathology and Behavior Analysis.

A committed educator and mentor, Radhika has trained generations of therapists and played a key role in advancing ABA awareness in India. Samvaad organised the first ABA conference in Bangalore in 2008.

She has presented papers in various national and international conferences and remains actively involved in creating awareness and dispelling myths regarding disabilities in the community.
